If you want a prototype of what you are looking for at the cornerback position in high school, just venture over to Trinity Christian in Jacksonville and you will find a pair of them that are turning heads and raking in offers. One of those two is Fred Davis who believes Florida is a place he could play.

Trinity Christian held their spring game Tuesday night against Lee High School and we were there beforehand. Davis says he and his teammates have been working hard over the spring to get to that game. He gave us a hint of what kind of things he has been working on all spring.

“We’ve been putting in work and just been doing what we had to do to get ready for this big game,” Davis said. “(I’ve been doing) footwork drills, ball work drills and just been getting ready for the game, that’s pretty much been all I’ve been doing. I’m also playing quarterback, so I’ve been throwing the ball around.”

College coaches have been on the prowl for Davis because he’s “long, fast, and got good technique and ball skills.” He was offered in the spring before his sophomore season by the reigning national champions.

“Bama,” he responded when asked who offered first. “It was surreal, because it was the spring game and they just saw potential and they offered me.”

The Gators have also come calling. Charlton Warren is the area recruiter and also happens to coach cornerbacks a Florida. He’s been putting the hard sale on Davis so far.

“Florida’s a traditional school,” Davis said. “I grew up watching them and I had some cousins graduate from Florida and know some people that go to Florida. It’s just a blessing that they watched my film and offered me.
