The Back-End Engineer is a highly skilled and motivated contributor to Parallel’s talented IT Systems Development team. We are looking for someone who is excited and passionate about development and has experience working with Node.js and AWS in a serverless lambda and micro-service, container-based architecture. Your primary focus will be the development of server-side logic, definition and maintenance of the database, and ensuring high performance and responsiveness. .

Developing and maintaining new and existing features

Architecting and developing highly scalable and secure database solutions to store and retrieve company data

Building and consuming internal and external APIs

Building clean, fully tested readable code that is both secure and scalable

Writing code that demonstrates good coding principles

Writing unit tests and other types of tests for your code

Documenting written code and modules

Collaborating with other team members and stakeholders

Maintaining visual and workflow consistency across all products

Taking ownership in what is built and showing a general passion for development and architecture

Participating and supporting the Agile (SCRUM) development process

Continuously improving upon technical skills sets within assigned areas of expertise

Researching and contributing technical information to the knowledgebase


4+ Years of Node.js and JavaScript development experience

1+ Years of SQL or ORM experience

Proficient understanding of Node.js development in a serverless and micro-service architecture

Experience working with Amazon Web Services (API Gateway, Lambda, RDS, DynamoDB, SQS)

Experience building and integrating with API’s (RESTful or GraphQL)

Understanding principles of asynchronous programming

Integration of multiple data sources and databases into one system

Basic understanding of testing best practices inside of a CI/CD pipeline

Strong verbal and written communications skills for working well with our team of talented engineers

Ability to write well designed, testable, and efficient code using software development best practices and patterns

Passion for growing your skills, tackling interesting work and challenging problems

Bonus points for skills related to: Golang, Terraform, Serverless Framework,, RESTful APIs, DevOps, GDPR Compliance, HIPAA Compliance
