Oh, the Grand Cru.
A nomenclature usually reserved for other beverages and properly and lovingly reappropriated by the craft beer industry for exemplary exceptional beers.
Their release is an event. And since our interview with Boca Raton’s Barrel of Monks on the Florida Beer Podcast is out, I can also release an article about this 2022 Grand Cru (Belgian Strong Ale, 8.5% ABV) I got after the interview.
This is one of those beers that you can age or you can drink fresh, and it’ll be perfectly fine either way. With a Golden Strong, obviously, you can understand the color is going to be kind of a strong burnt yellow to pale orange, and the aroma instantly explodes with all sorts of sourdough and biscuit aromas. It’s tied in with some golden raisin, plum, pineapple, and a touch of bubble gum.
The flavor is amazing. First of all, the mouthfeel itself really lent its well way to honoring and mimicking the great Golden Strong’s Belgian inspiration, with an effervescence that practically explodes out of the bottle.
