Cannabis entrepreneur seeking dispensary site surprises Middleburg council – cleveland.com

MIDDLEBURG HEIGHTS, Ohio – She described herself simply as a cannabis attorney, but Paula Givens also co-owns, legally represents and/or partners with multiple medical and recreational marijuana-related companies throughout the country.

With a cannabis moratorium already in place, Middleburg Heights City Council members appeared surprised when Givens attended the May 14 council meeting and spoke about her desire to establish a dual-use medical and adults-only recreational cannabis dispensary in Ward 1.

Nearly 50 municipalities throughout Ohio have enacted bans so far.

Givens’ social media accounts indicate she has secured cannabis licenses in Illinois, New York, Ohio, Michigan, Missouri and New Jersey. The online Springfield (MO) Business Journal reported in 2019 that Givens also “co-owns four medical marijuana operations in Oklahoma, including a dispensary called ElectraLeaf, as well as manufacturing and cultivation facilities.”

“I am a cannabis attorney and represent a couple of cannabis companies in Ohio that have licensed dispensaries,” Givens told council.

“I’m here to really ask the council if the moratorium you imposed … was because you’re certain this is not a community where you want to allow it, or if the moratorium was put into place because more information was needed.”
