Cue the cowbells: Mullen returning to Mississippi State
GAINESVILLE — Sonically, the Gators are making a drastic transition during practice this week, from bluegrass to Blue Oyster Cult.
Or so Dan Mullen jokes.
The new Gators coach knows cowbell will serve as the cacophonous soundtrack for his return Saturday to Starkville, Miss., his home the previous nine years. What better time for a classic Saturday Night Live reference?
“We’ll (get) a lot of crowd noise going (at practice),” said Mullen, who had Rocky Top piped in for last week’s Tennessee preparations.
“We’ll have some cowbell, right? We’ve got to play a little — what is it — Don’t Fear the Reaper in practice, and get some more cowbell going. Maybe we can edit it and just get the cowbell part going louder.”
As if the buzz surrounding this game — Mullen returns to Mississippi State — isn’t loud enough.
To simulate the @HailStateFB cowbells, Mullen suggests playing the old Christopher Walken/Don’t Fear the Reaper skit on the practice loudspeakers. “Maybe we can edit it and just get the cowbell going louder.” #MoreCowbell pic.twitter.com/VctH6RxiSo
