GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Florida returned a trio of talented backs in 2018, but you’re always looking to add more workhorses to the stable.

And the Gators might just have one of the nation’s best after adding two more stud four-star prospects in the Early Signing Period. Both Dameon Pierce and Iverson Clement inked with Florida and will enroll early, rounding out a unit that now has a ton of versatility.

“Running backs that can motion out of the backfield or motion into the backfield,” coach Dan Mullen said. “It creates position flexibility and gives you the opportunity to create mismatches out there on the field.”

Florida’s existing backs could definitely do that to some degree.

But Clement, in particular, goes down as a pure athlete. Florida will be able to use him in a number of different ways, a sort of Swiss Army knife on offense.

“Really excited. I think the running backs, one thing I will say, you have an Iverson Clement who gives you, he’s a guy who is a playmaker in and out of the backfield, open space runner, can get him the ball in the open field,” Mullen said.

The other back, Pierce, can bring the thunder to the backfield.

Mullen said he was the first to officially have his National Letter of Intent in on Wednesday, earning a special place in the new Florida coach’s heart for being the first on board. The first to buy in.

And if Pierce’s game translates as well to college as it did in high school, it won’t take fans long to buy in on him. He can be the kind of back that SEC fans know as a house-hold name quickly.
