Fresh off the heels of a win against another Georgia team, Valdosta State, Florida Tech hits the road to face Georgia State today in its second-to-last regular-season game.
The Panthers are looking to improve their 6-2 (3-2 Gulf South Conference) record and secure a spot in the playoffs. FIT is currently number four in the conference with UWG just one spot behind them.
“It’s big and the last several games we’ve played in have been big. To make it to the playoffs every game is huge,” FIT head coach Steve Englehart said. “It would be huge for us to go there and get a win at West Georgia. A team that we were able to beat last year … but it’s a different year.”
In the face of a big game with high stakes, Englehart said that the pressure goes both ways, and his team will play its best football regardless.
“We have no pressure. To me, the pressure’s on them. It’s just gonna be a good hard-fought football game,” Englehart said.
Florida Tech currently boasts the second-best scoring offense in the conference with 311 total points compared to 245 for West Georgia. And going solely on yardage, FIT has outgained every other team in the GSC so far with an average of 513 yards per game. UWG ranks eight with a 355.1 yard-per-game average.
