Two singles players and one doubles team ranked among the best in the nation for women’s tennis.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The ITA released its first individual rankings of the season Wednesday and two University of Florida women’s tennis student-athletes earned a spot in the singles rankings and one duo in the doubles grouping.
Senior McCartney Kessler checked in at No. 32 in singles, earning the highest ranking on the team and her best position since last year’s preseason issue when she opened at No. 23. Kessler, a two-time All-SEC selection, is fresh off a very successful run during the abbreviated fall campaign. Sophomore Layne Sleeth, a heralded signee in Florida’s 2020 class, registered a No. 65 overall ranking in singles.
Both Sleeth and Kessler maintained an ITA rank throughout all of the 2019-20 season.
Kessler and fellow upperclassmen Marlee Zein were tabbed the nation’s No. 26 doubles unit by the ITA. The veteran pairing compiled a 4-1 record this fall.
Florida begins its 2021 dual match campaign Monday, Jan. 25 when it hosts Georgia State at the Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex.
