As Iowa prepares for their season opener with Wyoming, Florida WR Calvin Lockett is preparing for the start of his senior season at Largo High School. Part of that preparation includes narrowing his list of potential college destinations down to 5. Lockett did just that yesterday.

As we told you in our recent rundown of top recruiting targets for the class of 2018, Lockett is one of a pair of Florida WRs Iowa is looking to add in this recruiting cycle.

As a 3-star on the various recruiting sites, he has good size for a receiver, measuring in at 6’2” and 180 lbs headed into his senior season. Despite that size, he’s built more on speed and agility than using that big frame to be a possession and blocking receiver the way Bryce Oliver appears to on film.

Here’s what I wrote about Lockett’s game in the Big Board update last week:

Looking at his junior film, you’ll see great ball skills both as a receiver and in the return game. He looks to have good top end speed and the ability to change directions. We don’t see the blocking highlights as with Oliver, but we do get a glimpse of him playing some defensive back. That may indicate a willingness to take on some contact, and certainly that he has some versatility.

You see him pretty consistently get behind defenders who don’t give him cushion. That’s a welcome sight for Iowa fans. He also flashes some nice work over the middle. The move he uses around the 30 second mark is really incredible and shows a nice ability to stop and change direction. He isn’t the quickest receiver in the class, but once he gets up to sped and into stride, you see him really pull away
