Four-star recruit Kevin Austin, a wide receiver at North Broward Preparatory School in Coconut Creek, Florida, announced Friday that he will play at Notre Dame beginning in 2018.

“I’m humbled, grateful and honored for the opportunity presented to me,” Austin wrote in a message posted to his Twitter account.

Listed at 6-foot-4 and 190 pounds, Austin had 41 catches for 1,021 yards and 13 touchdowns as a junior. He also had 46 carries for 454 yards and six scores.


Louisville: NCAA abused authority

Louisville says the NCAA “abused” its authority when it disciplined the school for a sex scandal that could result in the loss of its 2013 national basketball championship. The school also says in a 68-page appeal released Friday that the governing body imposed “draconian” penalties and ignored the school’s self-imposed discipline.


Ex-Bengal gets180 days in jail

Former Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Jerome Schaffer has been sentenced to 180 days in jail on misdemeanor assault and indecent exposure charges. Schaffer, 26, pleaded no contest in June. Authorities say he was apparently under the influence of drugs when he was arrested in February after he got into a fight, tried to break into cars and exposed himself in a church parking lot.

Michigan says wide receiver Grant Perry has been reinstated to full participation on the football team. Perry pleaded guilty to resisting a police officer and misdemeanor assault and battery in connection with an October confrontation outside an East Lansing bar.

A judge has ordered Baylor University to turn over information – including interview recordings and documents – provided to a law firm hired amid a sexual assault scandal that rocked the nation’s largest Baptist school.
