Jose Oliva committee hits $164K in January – Florida Politics (blog)
A political committee led by incoming House Speaker Jose Oliva brought in $164,000 early last month, with $100,000 coming from a Florida Chamber of Commerce PAC, according to a finance report posted Monday.
The committee, Conservative Principles for Florida, also received $25,000 from the insurer Florida Blue and had about $860,000 on hand as of Jan. 31.
Oliva is slated to become speaker after the November elections.
Lawmakers could only raise money during the first eight days of January because of a prohibition on fundraising during the legislative session, which started Jan. 9.
Also early last month, a committee led by Rep. Chris Sprowls, a Palm Harbor Republican in line to become speaker in 2020, raised $112,950, the reports show.
Contributions to Sprowls’ Floridians for Economic Freedom committee included $25,000 from the automotive company JM Family Enterprises Inc. The committee had about $907,000 on hand as of Jan. 31.
