Lamar finally gets his dream offer from the Florida Gators – GatorCountry.com
The south end zone of the Swamp was slammed full of prospects on Saturday for the Florida Gators final home game of the 2016 season.
2018 defensive end Malcolm Lamar (6-5, 250, Seffner, FL. Armwood) was one of those prospects in attendance and he enjoyed the atmosphere.
“It was cool, the fans are outrageous,” Lamar said of his visit to Florida. “It was a good win, a team win. The defense was lockdown.”
Lamar has been on the Gators radar for over a year now and defensive line coach Chris Rumph has been one of the coaches after him.
“I talk to several of the coaches from Florida,” he said. “They like the way I play and my film is amazing and they want me to come to Florida.”
Just a month ago, Lamar picked up an offer from the Gators and it came from Rumph and it was an offer that the defensive end has been waiting on.
“Like I said, it’s like a dream come true,” Lamar said on his Florida offer. “I’ve been waiting for this all my life, ever since I started playing football. It’s like a dream come true.”
Now that Lamar has the offer from Florida, Saturday’s visit to the Swamp was more about seeing how he would fit into the Gators defense.
“I feel like I can really picture myself playing with the Gators,” he said. “It felt good to be back here with an offer because I’ve been here a lot before. It was a good visit.”
The 2018 defensive end also had the chance to see several young guys play and that was something that caught his attention.
“The rotation in the D-line, there’s a lot of rotation,” Lamar said of Florida playing young guys. “ You’ve got freshman playing. So if I come here [Florida] I’ve got a pretty good chance of playing.”
Despite wanting the Gators offer, Lamar says he plans to wait awhile to make a decision but he did say two schools are standing out to him.
“Florida and Tennessee are the two schools sticking out to me right now,” he said. “ “I wanna play in the SEC and the Florida atmosphere is perfect.”
INSIDERS TAKE: Florida looks to be the team to beat early on because Lamar has been open about wanting this offer. The Gators have also been able to get him on campus for three home games this fall.
