FORT WALTON BEACH — A local angler has reeled in the title of Top Charter Captain of the Year for the second year in a row.
Adam Peeples lives in Fort Walton Beach and is the owner and captain of One Shot Fishing Charters. He captains a 24-foot boat and takes parties of five or fewer people out in the Gulf of Mexico.
This year he was named as one of the top six anglers in Sport Fishing magazine’s annual Charter Captains of the Year contest. He won the same award last year.
Peeples said he was “shocked” and “humbled” to have received the award in the first place, much less for the second year in a row.
“I’ve been fishing my whole life, but I’ve only been doing charters for about five years,” Peeples said. “I was in the Army for nine years, so this is kind of what I started doing when I got out.”
He said his specialty is daytime swordfishing, but he also enjoys catching billfish and king mackerel. He takes everybody fishing, from first-timers to experienced anglers.
“I take all kinds of people out there,” he said. “The main thing is making sure folks have a good time no matter where they’re at experience-wise, and I just want to make sure I can judge what my customers want and provide them that.”
Peeples said overall, he loves his job, and loves being able to make a living on the water.
“What better office could you have than being able to be on the water every single day,” he said. “There’s no place I’d rather be, ever. Being able to work on the water, it’s really special.”
