History of Florida fishing spotlighted

Florida is full of rich and exciting fishing locales. Freshwater lakes and rivers lead out to the saltwater Gulf of Mexico, which provides for a variety of fish to catch. For the earliest inhabitants of Florida, fishing was more than just a way to relax in nature; it was a way to provide for their families and communities.

Archeology can show how some methods of fishing have changed, while others have remained relatively the same for over 10,000 years. Join the Citrus County Library System for a special presentation by Citrus County Historical Resource Manager Kathy Turner Thompson on Monday, April 16, at 10:30 a.m. at the Central Ridge Library in Beverly Hills and learn about artifacts from Chassahowitzka and fishing in early Citrus County.
