New Florida assistant coach Brian Johnson appeared on a video game cover. Yes, that’s a real thing.
On Sunday, the Gators announced that the former Utah quarterback will join Dan Mullen’s staff as an assistant. Johnson was a Utes quarterback from 2004-08, before he began his career as a coach. He spent time at Utah from 2010-13 as a quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator before going to Mississippi State to serve as a quarterbacks coach from 2014-16. He was Houston’s offensive coordinator this past season.
But you can argue that his appearance on the PlayStation 3 cover for EA Sports NCAA Football 2010 is one of the coolest things about his resume. Check out the image below for a blast from the past, Gators fans.

Johnson was one of four cover athletes for EA Sports NCAA Football 2010, which you can read about here. Of course, the NCAA Football video game no longer exists, much to the frustration of college football-loving gamers everywhere.
But Johnson’s experience as a cover star should be a conversation-starter in Gainesville.
