Trevon Grimes helping family in Florida

Urban Meyer confirmed Wednesday that freshman wide receiver Trevon Grimes is the player he visited on Monday. Grimes is home in Florida to be with his family because of an unspecified family illness.

“Trevon is dealing with family health issues,” Meyer said. “I saw him. He’s doing great.”

Grimes is still a part of the program, though it is unclear how long he will remain in Florida.

Urban Meyer talks road night games

Ohio State could play up to four road night games this year, with the third coming on Saturday at Nebraska. That fact hasn’t gone unnoticed by Meyer, who would prefer to see teams only have to play two road night games a year.

“I understand TV contracts, but when you start talking about student-athletes, they shouldn’t have to play four night games on the road,” Meyer said. “I’ve talked to Gene Smith about it, and I’ll bring it up to our commissioner. We’ll find out if we really do care about getting home at 4 o’clock in the morning four times.”

Ohio State gives Urban Meyer raise

In better news for Meyer, USA Today revealed Wednesday that Meyer received a bigger-than-expected raise before the 2017 season. His annual compensation was scheduled to be increased by 6 percent but instead was raised by 8 percent.

That bumped up his salary by $428,640, giving him an annual salary of $6.4 million.
