Each weekend during the regular season, USA TODAY Sports will be highlighting the race for the College Football Playoff. Here are three teams moving up and three teams moving down in the sprint for the four-team field after Week 12 of the regular season:
TEAMS THAT PLAYED THEIR WAY IN
Colorado. At the very least, Saturday’s win against Washington State should make Mike MacIntyre the national coach of the year. But there can be more. With the win, the Buffaloes moved one step closer to securing a Pac-12 South Division championship and a game against either Washington or Washington State to decide the conference. A win there, with some craziness, could have Colorado in the mix for a national semifinal.
Florida. There’s good news and bad news. Start with the good? Sure. Well, by beating LSU the Gators clinched the SEC East Division for the second year in a row. That’s another sign of progress as Jim McElwain continues his building process. The bad news? Hmm. I’m not sure how to put this. But by beating LSU, the Gators get to play Alabama. Sorry.
Oklahoma State. Remember when OSU lost to Central Michigan because of gross officiating failure? That wasn’t supposed to linger outside of Stillwater, but the Cowboys’ run to 9-2 leading into the finale against Oklahoma makes that an interesting loss for the selection committee to consider. We
