Will Muschamp talks win over the Gators
South Carolina coach Will Muschamp spoke to the media after South Carolina’s 28-20 win over Florida on Saturday.
“The last two weeks, the Vanderbilt game and the Georgia game, two very physical games,” Muschamp said. “We had a bunch of guys who took various sparingly reps throughout the week and go out there — D.J. Smith wasn’t able to go in pregame. Dante Sawyer is limping on one leg, but we’re like everybody else in the country right now, really beat up, especially on the defensive side of the ball.
“But I thought we moved the ball extremely well. We were balanced, exactly what we want to do. Ran the ball extremely well. Jake [Bentley] had a couple of [bad] throws.”
Muschamp continued to praise his defense’s effort, particularly getting off the field. The Gamecocks held the Gators to just 2-of-15 on third down.
Grading the Gamecocks
The offense and defense earned B’s, while special teams gaffes warranted a C-plus for that unit, but it was South Carolina’s coaching that really shined, according to David Caraviello of SEC Country.
Caraviello gave Muschamp and his staff an A for their performance in South Carolina’s win over Florida.
“The consecutive run calls for Denson in the third quarter left a little bit to be desired,” Caraviello writes. “Third-and-1 got stuffed, so did fourth-and-1. That looked to be the same play from the same formation. Other than that sequence, which ended with a turnover on downs, it was another quality afternoon of play-calling by Roper.”
