PORT CANAVERAL, Fla. (WESH) —Royal Caribbean announced they will be suspending all sailings through April 30.
Royal Caribbean International cited the safety of their guests and crews well being as being their top priority for the continued suspension.
The suspension will exclude sailings onboard the Quantum of the Seas in Singapore and the Spectrum of the Seas in China. However, sailings on the Spectrum of the Sea will be suspended from Feb. 15 through Feb. 28.
Royal Caribbean said they have plans to resume further reoperations in May.
The cruise industry has been planning its comeback for 2021.
“It may not be back the way it was for another two years. It’s not going to come back the way it shut down,” Port Canaveral Chief Executive Officer Capt. John Murry said.
However, there’s high optimism people still want to cruise.
A report from a Cruise Industry Association says 66% of experienced cruise passengers are willing to cruise again within a year. The industry is spending $24 billion on new ships and has already made 200 safe voyages worldwide since last July.
