SMU head coach Chad Morris spoke to the media at his weekly teleconference. Here are some highlights. 

On his final thoughts on the win over East Carolina:

“It was great to see our guys respond. That was the biggest challenge we had moving forward. Coming out of the Memphis game, where I thought we just didn’t respond well to the two prior weeks we had success, and that’s just learning how to win, that’s been the biggest challenge. We were challenging our players and challenging our coaches. Going out to East Carolina, I’ve been out there before, it’s a tough place to play. Their backs were against the wall much like Memphis. We had to respond and play well. And as a coach, that’s all you can ask for.”

On facing South Florida this week:

“We have a huge task at hand coming back into our stadium. Our challenge this week is to redeem ourselves from the last performance when we were last in our home stadium. We have a huge task ahead of us. Obviously, Willie (Taggart) has done an unbelievable job. I believe this is their fourth or fifth year in his system. The players believe in it. They are very talented. Offensively, they are very explosive. They have weapons all over the field. He’s done a very good job. But again, it’s about how we respond. That’s our biggest challenge moving forward.”

On wide receiver Courtland Sutton:

“Courtland Sutton is a phenomenal young man. We know what he can do on the football field but off the football field he’s a giver. This young man is truly a joy to be around. He’s a hard worker. He comes from a great family. He played at a great program here in Texas at Brenham. The guy is a winner. He knows how
