Sources: Warriors on verge of trade for Oubre

The Golden State Warriors are on the verge of acquiring Kelly Oubre Jr. from the Oklahoma City Thunder, sources told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Oubre Jr.’s $14.4 million salary will be absorbed into the $17.2 million dollar trade exception created last summer after the Warriors sent veteran swingman Andre Iguodala in a separate deal to the Memphis Grizzlies. Oubre Jr., who will turn 25 next month, fills an immediate need on the wing for a Warriors team that is reeling after an MRI Thursday morning revealed that former All-Star Klay Thompson will miss all of the upcoming season after tearing his Achilles tendon during a pickup game with some fellow NBA players on Wednesday.

Speaking to reporters prior to a formal introduction of the organization’s new draft picks, Warriors GM Bob Myers noted that while the deal to acquire Oubre hasn’t been completed yet, the Warriors have to work quickly to attempt to fill the void on the roster that Thompson’s injury created.
