On a less than great slate of Saturday college football, the UAB Blazers visiting the Florida Gators is somewhat intriguing. The Blazers are having a good season while the Gators are on a five-game losing skid — during which they fired head coach Jim McElwain. Sports Illustrated picked this game in their Week 12 picks, and not everyone took Florida.

Of the seven experts that picked this game, five picked the Gators and two picked the Blazers in the upset. Andy Staples picked UAB and he says it wasn’t too difficult.

“This isn’t Georgia Southern Part II. If the depleted, coach-just-got-fired Gators win this one, that would be the upset.”

Normally, this would be a wildly outlandish pick, but the tumultuous season in Gainesville makes it far more realistic in 2017. Currently, the Gators are 10.5-point favorites over the Blazers, according to SportsLine.

These teams have only met twice before. Most recently, the Florida smacked UAB by a score of 39-0 in 2011.
