Thomas will play senior season in Florida – Spartanburg Herald Journal
The state is losing it’s top prospect for the 2018 class. DE Xavier Thomas of Wilson announced Monday night that he will play next season at IMG Academy in Bradenton, FL. He plans to enroll there in January.
“Had to make one of the toughest decisions of my life,” Thomas wrote on his Twitter page in revealing his plans. “Wilson (High School) has molded me into the player and person who I am today and I will never forget my city and school. Due to family issues (would prefer not to put my family’s business out there) I will be transferring to IMG Academy in Bradenton, FL for the remainder of my high school career.”
Thomas will be the subject of an intense recruiting campaign over the next year. It remains to be seen how his move out of state impacts what was expected to be a USC-Clemson battle. Thomas was at the Palmetto Bowl Saturday night at Clemson. He also went to games this season at USC, Georgia, Alabama and Florida.
He said Sunday night his current top six, in no order, are USC, Clemson, Georgia, Alabama, Ohio State and Florida State.
