The Florida Gators have a glaring need at quarterback and are trying to fill it with quality in anyway possible. Even with two developing talents in the program already, could they land one of the coveted transfers this offseason?
There are three coveted transfer quarterbacks this offseason. The Florida Gators seem to be likely front-runners for two of them. Those two are former Baylor QB Jarrett Stidham and Notre Dame QB Malik Zaire.
The two signal callers have seen starting time at very big programs in their day and would arguably be instant starters in Gainesville.
Stidham dominated with the Bears in his short tenure as a freshman, but elected to transfer for various reasons. He would enroll at JUCO program McLennan C.C. in Texas but would not actually play, so it was somewhat of a redshirt season.
The former high school five-star is currently the No. 1 JUCO prospect and quarterback according to 247 Sports. Film and scheme-wise, he would be the best fit of the two for the Gators.
Stidham won’t be an easy pull. The Gators will have to fend off Auburn and Texas A&M, which are also frontrunners for the QB.
Stidham’s College Stats
68.8 Completion % , 1265 Yards, 12 TDs, 2INTs, 199.0 Passer Rating in 10 appearances for the Bears last season and three starts.
Stidham is most likely the better option because of youth and seemingly the better play, but Zaire is no slouch either. Zaire was beaten out by DeShone Kizer this past season, but that isn’t technically a bad thing. Kizer is the No. 2 or No. 3 quarterback for this year’s NFL draft.
