Four-Down Territory

1. New kids on the block: West Florida is in its first season of football, although the Argonauts have been building their program for the past three years. Coach Pete Shinnick, who also started the program at North Carolina-Pembroke, was hired in 2014 and signed his first recruiting class in 2015. West Florida has not played like a first-year program. The Argonauts have posted a 5-4 record, which includes Gulf South Conference victories over Florida Tech, Mississippi College and Shorter. West Florida also played Delta State and Valdosta State to the wire, so this is not a team UNA can afford to overlook.

Nobles played briefly in losses to the Lions in 2013 and 2014, but did not see action in the Blazers’ playoff win against UNA in 2014. Nobles has become a standout with the Argonauts and ranks fifth nationally in passing yards with 2,922. He has throws for 28 touchdowns with 11 interceptions. He has completed 215 of 376 passes and leads the West Florida offense which is averaging 38.9 points per game.
