TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Florida homeowners pay nearly five times more for insurance than the national average, according to a study from Insurify, which looked at real-time insurance quotes from partners and aggregated rate filings from Quadrant Information Services.

Florida homeowners are expected to pay an average of nearly $12,000 for home insurance in 2024, according to the report. That’s up 7% from 2023.

‘It’s just not affordable’: Some Florida homeowners ditch insurance due to cost

Out of the 10 most expensive cities to insure a home in the United States, the study found that six of them were in Florida — all along the Atlantic coast.

Louisiana homeowners on average paid the second most in 2023, but was still about 60% of what their Florida counterparts paid, according to the study. However, Louisiana home insurance is expected to have the largest increase in 2024, going up 23% to an average of about $7,800.

Many insurance companies have filed for rate hikes or have just left the state altogether in recent years.
